What is causing high-pitched alarm on APC unit?
I have an APC Back-UPS ES 500 unit. The high-pitched alarm noise is going off whenever I turn it on (with or without things plugged into it). However, the light is green (indicating power) and not red (indicating the battery is faulty or dead). Has anyone encountered this before? Is the battery dead without the battery replacement light coming on or is there another serious problem going on? I'm mostly wondering if I should spend $20 on a replacement battery or take it to the recycle center. I've attempted resetting the unit, turning it upside down (suggested on APC boards), removing the battery, etc. Everything except "Repair Procedure #1: Kick It". Thanks everyone!
New units often go on sale for not much more than the cost of a replacement battery. I'd go that route and offer the old one within a Freecycle group that is active in your area.
