Should I use a "cheater" plug to power a UPS surge protector?

I rent an apartment in an old building that does not have ground slots in any of the outlets. I'm looking to purchase a very expensive gaming computer system in the next few months, and obviously I'd like to protect my investment.

However, the $200 Uninterrupted Power Supply/Surge Protector I'd like to purchase has a 3-pronged plug. I've thought of using a cheater plug so that I can power it, but my (perhaps foolish) question is: Won't doing this essentially defeat the purpose of the surge protector?

I have no other option to power my equipment, so I'm just wondering if my surge protector/UPS will still do its job if I use a cheater with it. Because if not, why spend $200 on one when the $5 "surge protector" I already own works just as well? Or is there another surge protector that is better suited for this situation?

By the way, in case it matters, the UPS/Surge Protector I want to buy is the "CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series GreenPower UPS".

Thanks!

Yes, if you ground it to the receptical screw and the receptical is properly grounded.
