Why isnt my ATX plug connecting to the motherboard?
Well I just bought a new case with a coolermaster 500W power supply and a new gigabyte GA z86a motherboard. this is the first time im building a new computer but i dont know if i am doing something wrong?? all the parts are brand new but the 4 pin plug wont connect to the 4 pin female connector motherboard. am i putting it in the wrong place...there is only one spot on the motherboard for this plug so im assuming it has to go there?? please help!!!
I don't know your PSU's particulars, but it's possible that the specific plug you need is combined or compounded with another ... look for a plug that is actually 2 smaller plugs linked to each other by a little plastic tab. Since you need a 4-pin connection, look at the cables that appear to have an 8-pin connector. If you find an 8-pin that is actually two 4-pin plugs connected to each other, you can separate them and then figure which 4-pin one is the correct one for the socket. When I upgraded my PSU I had that exact problem. Took me a couple days to figure it out.
