Linux: What would I look up to find more information on how to do this?
Right now I'm running an LTSP environment in my classroom. However, our server just died. I want to still allow the students to sit wherever they please and still have access to their desktop environment like LTSP provides, but I don't have a replacement server that'll do the job.
Is there another way to do this? I'm researching "fat clients" but is there anything else?
WOW !! LTSP in the classroom ...that is too cool !!
But, if I were you.....since LTSP worked before why not use it again ??
And, I would start checking local (big or medium) sized companies for used computer equipment that can fill the need in these tough times. Really big companies mostly lease the equipment.
It's worth a shot !!
I know that this might sound funny but try E bay....I bought a used Dell Poweredge 750 server from a company In California...that work just wonders with my Linux Fedora Core 12.
iPads And Digital Textbooks Do Not Belong In Classrooms Yet (crunchgear?)
I do not want my children learning math proofs on iPads. I simply do not see
the value in it. iPads will not help with identifying sentence clauses or
writing an essay. There's a place for interactive learning and there's not.
It's a clear line. Give science and history teachers iPads loaded with demos,
videos and soundbites. Allow children to pinch and zoom DNA strands and the
inner workings of WWI trenches. But make my kids do math drills on paper with
a dull pencil. Please. Simply put, the movement to digitalized learning scares
me. iBooks 2 is just the start. Digital interactive learning has always been
the future but I fear for my children now that it's here.
