problem with buying power supply for my graphic card Inno3D gtx480 help?
i bought graphic card gtx 480 but there is problem my power supply is Thermaltake 400wat i want to buy golden tiger 750wat is that will be enough ?
and what will happen if i put the graphic card with the 400w power supply ?
A GTX 480 wants 250W of 12V power all by itself. Since a 400W power supply unit only has about 300W of 12V power, that doesn't leave enough to run the processor and other devices.
Running with a 400W PSU is a really bad idea. At best, it will work until you put it under load (i.e. Gaming) and then shut down the PSU with an overload. At worst, that overload will destroy one or more components.
You should have at least a 650W PSU for that card, so 750W should be enough. That does depend on the quality of the "Golden Tiger" brand that I'm not familiar with. Good PSUs can deliver their rated power continuously. Bad ones can only deliver that Peak power for a second or two before shutting down. If the brand was Corsair, Antec, OCZ or SeaSonic, I wouldn't have any worries.
PS - make sure the GTX 480 card will FIT before you install or even unpack it. Those cards are often 12+" (310+mm) long and don't fit in many cases.
